Abstract
The history of education in India has seen significant changes over time as a result of changes in social values, political structures and technological developments. India has undergone great changes in the field of education from the Gurukul era to the present education system based on the English model of education. This article discusses the historical, present and future trends and patterns of education in India, while highlighting the important contribution of NGOs in leading the way.
