Abstract
Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) has emerged as a key strategy for addressing global challenges such as environmental degradation, social inequality, and economic instability. From a social science perspective, ESD emphasizes the role of education in shaping values, behaviours, and social structures that support sustainability. This paper explores the conceptual and practical aspects of ESD, highlighting its contribution to social equity, civic responsibility, and sustainable development. Using a qualitative review of academic literature, policy frameworks, and social science theories, the study examines how education can act as a transformative tool for social change. Findings suggest that integrating social science principles into ESD enhances critical thinking, social awareness, and community participation. The paper concludes with recommendations for policymakers and educators to strengthen ESD through inclusive, interdisciplinary, and participatory approaches.
